Security Awareness Special Interest Group (SASIG)

is a peer-to-peer network of Federal and contractor personnel actively involved with security awareness. Voluntary members include security personnel from the Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) facilities, DOE/NNSA contractor facilities, and individuals from other government agencies. The SASIG was organized in 1985 as the Safeguards and Security Training Special Interest Group (SST SIG) under the Department of Energy’s Training Resources and Data Exchange (TRADE). In 1987, the SIG was re-established as the Security Education Special Interest Group (SESIG). In 2003 “Education” changed to “Awareness” to better reflect the terms used in DOE orders. The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) manages the SASIG and receives support for its activities from the Office of Health, Safety and Security, Office of Security Policy, Office of Policy, HS-71. Through the guidance and direction of steering committee members, the SASIG has a rich history of accomplishments. As the SASIG marks its 25th Anniversary, how fitting it is to be back in our nation’s capital to celebrate. The SASIG is the longest functioning of the TRADE special interest groups with monthly conference calls, annual workshops, and product sharing. Members of the SASIG are actively working on awareness products, such as videos, challenging games, posters, etc. The participants share these awareness materials with all who have a need for them. Through the monthly conference calls, members can discuss current issues within their programs. It is common to use benchmarking information gathered from other facilities to develop and support local implementation of policy. These benchmarks are shared on the SASIG Web site at http://www.orau.gov/sasig/ . The Web site includes information about security awareness program resources, products, workshops, the Steering Committee, and other areas of interest. For questions or additional information, you may contact the SASIG at SASIG@orise.orau.gov. The SASIG Annual Workshop offers updated information on the DOE Safeguards and Security Awareness Program as well as information on other security programs/topics such as counterintelligence/counterterrorism, personnel security, cyber security, physical security, classified matter protection and control (CMPC), and OPSEC. Awareness is an integral part of each program and security awareness is the tool that assists all programs in disseminating their awareness messages. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the silver anniversary on April 27-28, 2010 in Gaithersburg, MD. Our two-day workshop agenda includes awareness information that will benefit you and your security awareness program. Registration information and the proposed agenda for the Annual Workshop will be available beginning February 1, 2010 on the SASIG Web site.
